My Reflection on Aboriginal History in B.C and Residential Schools

-What happened in B.C?
Aboriginal people have lived in the area now known as B.C. for more than 10,000 years. They developed their own societies, cultures, territories and laws. When European explorers and settlers first came to B.C. in the mid-18th century, the province was home to thousands of Aboriginal people.

-Tell me about Aboriginal Culture
The aboriginal people in British Columbia are the people who first came here and made it their land. They were peaceful and happy for a long period of time but then the Europeans came and changed everything. They built schools for the children so they would forget everything they knew about their cultures and think only about the European culture. They forced them to learn a new language and never speak their old language or speak anything about their old cultures.

-What were Residential Schools?
Residential Schools are what the Europeans built to teach the Aboriginal people the European ways. The boys and girls were split up. The children were taken from their homes for the whole school year starting at the age of 5 until the age of 18. They were beaten and punished if they did something bad.

-What happened to families?
The families of the children who went to the residential schools were torn apart. The parents wished they could do something for their kids to get out of that horrible place where they were punished and beaten. But you see, they couldn't help their children or at least, get them out of the school because the children were forced to go it was the law. The parents couldn't do anything and they were devastated.

-Whose land are we on?

British Columbia is on the coast salish land.

All about Cole,
Cole is a 15 year old boy who does a lot of bad things. He doesn't care if he gets in trouble or goes to jail because his
alcoholic, rich parents will always just bail him out. His parents are divorced and his father beats him. His mother is to quiet and scared to stop his father so she is no help in the beatings. Cole takes his anger out on other kids at his school and once he gave someone permanent head damage. Cole has anger problems and thinks its fun to beat people up. He thinks that he's nothing compared to his dad and that his dad beats him terribly but really Cole is just like his father. He beats people up and has fun doing it. He also believes that everyone should be scared of him because apparently he is very scary.

What is Circle Justice?
Circle Justice is a group of people who help other people heal from their mistakes. It not like jail were you get punished. Circle Justice is all about healing. What they do is invite a bunch of people including the offender, his/her family the victim and his/her family. Everyone sits in a Circle and
decides what to do with the offender. Then they do what they decided on and if it happens again then they will have another meeting.

Who is the Spirit Bear?
The Spirit Bear is one bear that wonders a few islands in Alaska. He is pure white and very big. Once he slapped an arrow away and didn't even blink.

Why is Cole on an island?
Cole is on the island because he beat up Peter and went to a detention hall. When he got to the detention hall the parole officer temped him to do circle justice instead of going to jail. Cole agreed and all the people at circle justice agreed to send him to the island and that was that.

Detailed Summary of Chapter One
Chapter one started off by Peter ratting Cole out for stealing. When Cole heard what Peter did Cole got really mad. The second the bell rang Cole stormed out of class and yelled at Peter to come to the parking lot. Peter agreed obviously or Cole would probably punch him in the face. When Peter got to the parking lot after packing up his things Cole was there waiting for him. The second Cole saw Peter he stormed up to him. Cole starting yelling at Peter about how he ratted him out to the police. Peter didn't know what to do after that. Then Cole punched him in the face. Peter yelled stop but Cole punched him again, and again. The more Peter yelled the more Cole punched. Then Cole pushed Peter to the ground and started kicking him. It was the same with punching him, the more Peter screamed the more Cole punched. Then Cole grabbed Peter by the head and smacked his skull into the sidewalk over and over again. People saw this and went to get Cole off Peter but Cole was to strong and it took more then one person to get him off. Eventually they got Cole off Peter and called an ambulance. Then Cole got taken to a detention hall. After that, the chapter was over.

Do you believe Cole is a victim or villian.
I believe that Cole is the victim.  I believe this because Cole gets beaten by his father and has terrible influences from his parents. If Cole gets in trouble with the law he doesnt have to worry because his parents can always just bail him out. Also his father beats him up. So he takes all his anger out on people, when they have done nothing. He also blames all his problems on other people.

How do you think Peter Driscal`s  family feels.
I think that they are very sad about what happened to Peter because he might have permanent damage. Also I think that they are VERY angry with Cole because Cole is the one who beat their sons (Peter) face into the sidewalk and could possibly have gave him permanent damage.

Touching Sprit Bear trailer

Global Issues

For starters if you do not know what a global issue is its something bad that is happening all over the world such as Poverty, Global Warming, Pollution and much more.

Im interested in the global issues Poverty, Animal Cruelty, Pollution and Equality. But the one I am going to talk to a you about today is Animal Cruelty. I am going to tell you how you can raise awareness for Animal Cruelty. You could look on internet if there is any stories on the issue then copy it out and tell someone. You dont have to do anything too big to start something. Remember its the little things that count.

If you want to learn more about Animal Cruelty let me explain the Who, What, When, Were, Why and How of it. First up: WHO was involved. The people that were involved with Animal Cruelty are poachers, the animals that are abused and the people trying to help the animals. Next up is WHAT is Animal Cruelty. Animal Cruelty is when you abuse and animal. Say you have a dog and you purposely hurt it or when people go hunting for sport. Or if you over hunt animals, because then they go extinct. Third is When does Animal Cruelty happen. Animal Cruelty happens every day. Because people hurt animals all the time. Fourth is Where does Animal Cruelty happen. It happens all over the world. Because there is animals all over the world. Fifth is Why does Animal Cruelty happen. Animal Cruelty happens because sometimes, people are angry and take it out on animals and some people take revenge on others by hurting their pets. And finally How does it happen. It happens by people punishing their pets or hunting animals for no reason.

My opinion on Animal Cruelty is that I think its terrible. We all love animals so why hurt them. They have a mind and a heart same as us and can feel pain too. If your pet does something bad just scold them, don't lock them out on a cold night or beat them. Or if you want to do something on a Saturday night don't go hunting for sport go bowling or something! That's what I think about Animal Cruelty.
